One of the things we are talking about here on a regular basis is how the Modern Man is evolving. In a timely fashion, the folks over at Evolution of Dad are coming out with a movie on just that very issue. I am very excited to see what the movie will bring as a look at the new and changing role of Dads. They have pre-orders of the film on DVD beginning on May 1, 2010. I am hoping to talk with the folks there and maybe get some time to speak to Dana Glazer, the film’s maker.
Recently we have seen a flood of news coverage about how society is changing its perception of Fathers. We see and read more and more that their is a movement of Stay-At-Home Dads. This is brought on in part by current economic conditions, or like in my case, a conscious choice to be a modern man taking on a changed role from the more traditional sense. No matter the case, we are evolving into a different role as men and as Dads. I first ran across an interview of Dana Glazer at Playground Dad. Take some time to read through that interview for further information about the film and its maker.
The press release for the film states:
The Evolution of Dad was made over the last three years in brief pockets of time when Glazer had coverage for his kids – a realistic approach for an involved dad who is making a movie about involved and evolved dads. The film is an honest, personal, and heartfelt look into the world of fatherhood–where it has been and where it is headed.

I for one have been talking about how I see the role of Dad changing and in my own family the roles have been pretty dramatic over just the last three generations. This looks to cover exactly that and it will be interesting to see. I want to see Glazer’s look into my future.
More about the film:
The Evolution of Dad is a thought-provoking documentary about what it means to be a contemporary American father. Following the personal journey of filmmaker and dad, Dana H. Glazer, the film explores how fatherhood has evolved over time, what its impact has been on family and society; and lastly, how fatherhood will likely continue to evolve.
